  1. An emu is a flightless BIRD Dromaius 
  2. novaehollandiae native to Australia. It 
  3. stands about 1.8m (6ft) high and has coarse 
  4. brown plumage, small rudimentary wings, short 
  5. feathers on the head and neck, and powerful 
  6. legs, well adapted for running and kicking. 
  7. The female has a curious bag or pouch in the
  8. windpipe that enables her to emit the
  9. characteristic loud booming note.
